The rules of sensorimotor integration in goal directed tasks are poorly understood. How do sensory inputs get linked to motor function in learned behavior, since sensory and motor codes are a priori different and are not related by any simple mapping? How are the links between sensory and motor systems developed de novo in neuronal assemblies? How is information from different sensory channels combined for making purposive movements? Our research focus is to provide an integrated approach to the understanding of sensorimotor learning by using human speech as a model system.
